Tiam Tarran
G’day, I’m Tiam Tarran, a family man from the Sunshine Coast, Australia, originally from the Mid Coast of South Australia.
As a kid in the late ’80s, I’d be walking down to the beach with my parents and see hang gliders floating above the shops where we’d often stop for ice cream. I remember looking up at them, ice cream melting down my hand, thinking, “That’s going to be me one day.”
Fast forward. After flying hang gliders for the better part of 20 years, something new appeared. The first kite wings hit the market, and instantly I knew: this was it. A hang glider in a bag.
Up until that moment, I’ll be honest, I had a pretty negative view of paragliders. I thought they looked boring and unsafe. But this was different. It didn’t fly like a paraglider at all, and it moved just like a hang glider. But hanging under the wing, sliding your feet along the dune with the wing above you — OMG. I was sold, and within a year I had fully converted.
Being part of this new sport as it exploded — flying different models and brands at different sites with incredible new people — reignited my love for free flight. When I started seeing Europeans flying this new high-aspect Scraper by a company called Dune Rider on the other side of the world, it grabbed my attention immediately. I knew I had to try it.
I’ll never forget my first afternoon flying the 16 Scraper. I remember saying, “It’s like everything I didn’t know I wanted.” It flew really well, but more than that, it offers the perfect balance between performance and feeling. That feeling, for me, was as good as it gets. I’m stoked now to be riding for Team Dune Rider and supporting QLD sales.
Having flown every parakite on the market, I'm super passionate to be flying what I consider the best in performance, build quality, and momentum in the market.
I'd be super stoked to offer you a demo on a Scraper 20, Hopper 24, 19 and 16, so hit me up!
