Dune Rider Scraper
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Dune Rider Scraper — high-performance parakite for experienced pilots
The Dune Rider Scraper is the high-performance wing in the Dune Rider range: fast, efficient and highly dynamic, with exceptional glide, sustained dive, strong energy retention and powerful roll response.
This is not an entry-level parakite. The Scraper is intended for experienced to expert pilots with the judgement, active piloting skills and parakite-specific experience required to manage a more energetic and technically demanding wing.
Cloudbase perspective
The Scraper makes sense when a pilot has moved beyond simply wanting accessible parakite performance and specifically wants greater energy retention, deeper sustained dives, sharper high-energy turns and powerful dive-to-lift conversion. Its lighter brake pressure and more subtle stall feedback demand greater sensitivity and active control than the Hopper.
For pilots still developing parakite technique, or who place greater value on progressive feedback and predictable energy management, the Hopper is the more appropriate Dune Rider platform.
Flying characteristics
Glide performance
A high-aspect-ratio design and efficient modern reflex profile provide excellent glide while maintaining strong canopy pressure at low angles of attack. Best glide is more technical to access than on the Hopper and rewards precise control input.
Dive and energy retention
The Scraper begins diving immediately as the wing is depowered and continues to sustain that dive until power is re-engaged. The resulting acceleration and energy retention allow powerful conversion between speed, height and trajectory.
High-energy roll
Size-specific airfoil development, the wing arc and defined wingtips produce very strong roll authority. The Scraper can generate extremely steep, high-energy turns and powerful pop, making pilot timing and energy management critical.
Light, responsive control
Brake pressure is comparatively light. The wing provides feedback approaching stall, but that warning is more subtle than the progressive, heavier feedback of the Hopper. This reduces fatigue during long soaring sessions but demands greater pilot sensitivity.
Hopper or Scraper?
| Characteristic | Hopper | Scraper |
|---|---|---|
| Pilot focus | Intermediate-and-up progression / all-round | Experienced/expert high-performance |
| Inflation | Quick and straightforward | Good, but requires sound technique |
| Brake feedback | Progressive and obvious | Light and more subtle |
| Dive | Moderate; tends to auto-level hands-up | Immediate and sustained under depower |
| Turns | Controlled flat through steep turns | Very steep, high-energy turns |
| Pop / energy retention | Strong and manageable | Very powerful |
Size-specific design
The Scraper sizes are developed individually rather than simply scaled. For example, the 12 uses a lower aspect ratio and increased profile stability to favour canopy stability in the stronger, more turbulent winds in which that size is typically flown.
Reference wind range
Reference only — based on an 80 kg all-up rider. Actual usable wind range depends on pilot experience, turbulence, wind angle, ridge shape and local conditions. The extended ranges are explicitly expert-pilot references and should not be treated as operating targets.
| Size | Dune sweet spot | Extended range — expert pilot |
|---|---|---|
| 12 | 20–32 kt | 16–35 kt |
| 16 | 15–27 kt | 12–32 kt |
| 20 | 12–20 kt | 9–25 kt |
Choosing your Scraper size
Scraper sizing should be considered in the context of all-up weight, pilot experience, local terrain, expected wind strength and the amount of speed and energy the pilot intends to access. Contact Cloudbase before ordering if you are between sizes or moving from conventional paragliding into higher-energy parakite flying.
Certification
The Scraper is load tested to EN 926-1. This is not an EN flight-classification rating.
