PRODUCT OVERVIEW

Dune Rider Hopper — all-round performance built for progression

The Dune Rider Hopper is the more accessible, progression-focused wing in the Dune Rider range. It takes the high-performance DNA of the Scraper and tunes it for easier inflation, more progressive brake feedback, strong low-speed efficiency and predictable energy management.

Cloudbase positions the Hopper for appropriately trained intermediate pilots and above who already have the judgement and active piloting skills required for parakite flying and want a platform with genuine room to progress.

Cloudbase perspective

The Hopper is the logical starting point within the Dune Rider range for most suitably experienced pilots. It can cruise efficiently in marginal coastal lift, retain useful roll authority at low speed and still generate the speed, dive and energy required for increasingly dynamic flying as the pilot develops.

If maximum energy retention, sharper high-energy turns and a more demanding, technical wing are the priority, look at the Scraper. If predictability, progressive feedback and a broader progression envelope matter more, the Hopper is the better fit.

Flying characteristics

Effortless inflation and low-speed performance

An optimised internal structure, enlarged cell openings and efficient airfoil allow the Hopper to pressurise quickly and remain effective at lower speeds. That is particularly useful in marginal or uneven dune lift, where efficient low-speed flight can make the difference between maintaining height and dropping out of the lift band.

Progressive feedback and stability

The Hopper is designed to provide clear brake feedback, with brake pressure increasing noticeably as the stall point approaches. Stall behaviour is progressive, while the canopy maintains strong internal pressure across a broad range of angles of attack.

Smooth, controlled roll

A refined arc, optimised airfoil distribution and dedicated tip-steering bridle give the Hopper useful roll authority across a wide speed range. It can perform efficient flatter turns at lower energy or be driven into steeper, more dynamic manoeuvres as speed builds.

Glide, dive and energy

The efficient airfoil, reduced line count and compact bridle reduce drag and support strong glide and upwind penetration. Depower initially adds speed with relatively little dive; further depower develops a deeper dive. In a hands-up position the Hopper tends to level automatically, making its energy behaviour more predictable than the Scraper.

Hopper or Scraper?

Characteristic Hopper Scraper
Pilot focus Progression and all-round performance Experienced/expert high-performance flying
Inflation Quick and straightforward Good, but more technique-sensitive
Brake feedback Progressive, clear warning approaching stall Lighter and more subtle
Low-speed flight Very strong More performance-oriented
Dive Moderate; tends to auto-level hands-up Immediate and sustained under depower
Turns Flat through steep, with controlled energy Very steep, high-energy
Pop / energy retention Strong and manageable Very powerful

Reference wind range

Reference only — based on an 80 kg all-up rider. Actual usable wind range depends on pilot experience, turbulence, wind angle, ridge shape and local conditions. These figures are not a substitute for pilot judgement or site-specific assessment.

Size Dune sweet spot Extended range — expert pilot
16 14–23 kt 12–28 kt
19 12–20 kt 9–25 kt
24 9–18 kt 7–20 kt

Choosing your Hopper size

Do not choose a Hopper from wind range alone. Pilot all-up weight, experience, local site, expected conditions and the balance you want between low-speed efficiency and dynamic performance all matter. Cloudbase can help you work through the 16, 19 and 24 before ordering, and demo opportunities are available in Australia.

Certification

The Hopper is shock and load tested to EN 926-1, with a maximum all-up weight of 119 kg. This is not an EN flight-classification rating.
